What is cholesterol, causes, factor and treatment?

Cholesterol is a substance that uses to protect your body nerves, make cell tissues, and certain hormones. Too much cholesterol have negative impacts on your health. It is a fatty substance that is mostly found in foods such as eggs, meat, milk, and milk products. 
There are two main forms of Cholesterol:
  1. Low-density lipoprotein(LPL)
  2. High-Density Lipoprotein(HPL)
Low-density lipoprotein is also called bad cholesterol. It transfers cholesterol to your body. otherwise, High-density lipoprotein is also called Good cholesterol. It removes the cholesterol from your body.
By changing your lifestyle, you can improve your cholesterol levels.

For example: if you have high cholesterol levels because of LDL, then you have to suffer from heart diseases or stroke. By changing your lifestyle, you maintain your cholesterol levels(Lowing LDL and increasing HDL).

What should our cholesterol levels be?

Total cholesterol levels: It depends on your HDL and LDL, but less than 200 is best.

LDL Cholesterol levels: It depends on the risk of your heart diseases, but less than 130 is the best.

HDL Cholesterol levels: 60 or more reduces the risk of heart diseases or stroke.

What are the causes of high cholesterol?
There are so many factors that affect that causes high cholesterol in our body. Below are some causes of high cholesterol:
1. Lifestyle: Your lifestyle can increase your risk by increasing cholesterol in our body. This includes:

  • An Unhealthy  Diet: unhealthy diet means there are some foods like eggs, liver etc. which contain cholesterol(which is also called dietary cholesterol), but this has little effect on the blood.
  • Lack of Exercise: If you are not doing any physical activity, or not doing any exercise then your LDL will increase which is bad for your health.
  • Obesity: Obesity means over weight. If you are overweight, then this also leads to high cholesterol. so, for maintaining your cholesterol levels, you have to maintain your weight. 
2.  Smoking:  Smoking also leads High cholesterol levels, because it lowers down your HDL( Good Cholesterol).

What are the Symptoms of high cholesterol levels?
High cholesterol has no symptoms. A blood test is the only way to check it if it have.

What are the risk factors of increasing the bad cholesterol in your body?

  • Poor diet

What are the treatment for controlling the cholesterol levels?
Treatments include self-care, Medications and consult with the specialists.
1. Self-care: Physical exercise and eat a low fat diet means you have to eat heart healthy diet.
2. Medications: You have to take proper medicine (means you have to take statin and cholesterol medications). Statin for decrease your liver's production for increasing the harmful cholesterol. Cholesterol medications for decrease levels of your cholesterol.
3. Specialists: 
  • Cardiologists: specialises in heart diseases.
  • Geriatrician: Focuses on health care of elderly people.
  • Nutritinist: Specialists in food and diet.
